Weight Loss and Asthma

with one comment

In this post, I want to look at how body weight affects asthma sufferers in general to see just how relevant a weight loss program may be to them and what kind of difference it can make to their overall state of health and the condition itself. This article is original and copyright to loseweight.bakeradio.com, so it may not be published elsewhere without violating copyright law. So let’s get on with the post now!

When you suffer with asthma, the symptoms of difficulty in breathing can be bad enough and the reliance on the inhaler to alleviate those breathing problems can be both a crutch and a necessity, depending upon how you look at it. But when you mention that those symptoms can actually be exacerbated by being overweight, people don’t at first click on to the connection. But there is a connection with being overweight and having difficulty with breathing which is amplified when you suffer from asthma. That’s because the body has to work harder to get the blood pumped around the extra body mass meaning everything has to work harder in sympathy, not least of all your lungs!

That’s right, you need to be able to breathe more efficiently in order to take in sufficient oxygen to saturate your bloodstream in order to make everything in your body work at its optimum. So when you’re overweight, you place extra load not only on your heart, but also on your lungs and they are the very organs that are targeted by asthma.

So it makes perfect sense to reduce your weight if you do suffer with asthma in order to at least reduce the stress placed on your body by the extra weight, to make it easier for your lungs to work at their optimum rate without undue excess pressure being placed upon them.

If all that seems to be too much to take in, then think about it in terms of what it feels like to be out of breath easily, say after running up a flight of stairs. Imagine how difficult that is for an asthma sufferer who is overweight. Now take the same situation and replace the overweight person with one at their correct weight. It doesn’t take much working out to see that a person at their correct weight will be less out of breath after running up some stairs, and consequently they will be less likely to have that situation exacerbated by the symptoms of asthma, which directly target the lungs you need to breathe in the extra oxygen to make it possible to run up those stairs in the first place.

So hopefully, by that example, you can see that it makes good sense to lose weight if you suffer with asthma and are overweight, to improve your health and to make most tasks a little easier. For more information on asthma and how reducing your weight can improve your health, here is a useful website that has a lot of additional information that can help at: Asthma Weight Loss. Bottom line is that a balanced healthy weight can only be better for you overall. So take this to heart and do what you can to maintain a healthy weight.
